Personal fitness trainers must screen a potential client to determine if he can be physically trained. They must identify health risk factors such as diabetes or obesity, collect information about a potential client’s personal medical history: illnesses, biomechanical problems, and current medications. Lastly trainers must obtain clearance from a client’s physician if the client is on certain medications for conditions such as: blood pressure, cardiac or blood sugar.
Next, they must be able to assess a client's physical shape to determine the safe limit of how intense a regimen the client can handle; push a client too hard and you could end up in a lawsuit. Next, the trainer must have extensive knowledge of nutrition and diet in order to provide clients with dietary guidelines to help them achieve their fitness goals. Going along with this, trainers must know how to effectively train clients and structure regimen to best build muscle, lose fat, or achieve other goals. Finally, trainers must be CPE and AED certified.
